Today (14 March 2025), Asst. Prof. Dr. Supaphen Sripibul, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Kasetsart University, said that it is good news that Thailand has successfully produced elephant stem cells for the first time. This is a collaboration between a research team from Kasetsart University, the Thai Elephant Conservation Center in Lampang Province, and a research team from Precision Vet and the Ayutthaya Elephant Palace and the Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Pen, who donated placenta cells from the world's first twin elephants to the lab to be grown as elephant stem cells. Previously, Thailand had to import stem cells from horses to treat dogs and cats and to treat horses, but there have been no reports of this in elephants.
